WOTW resumes!

Well, I walked today with my good friend Kari.  I don't know how far we walked, but it was a good amount, and it had some hills involved.  We walked with our babies on our backs.  There are so many wonderful/colorful flowers out this time of year.  Some of the flowers we saw I had never seen before.  It was a good day.

Happy Birthday Isaac

It seems only fitting that the day my baby turns one, he wakes up at 4:30 am.  If he were older, he might have been dreaming about presents, just as excited as he would be if it were Christmas morning, and maybe that would be what woke him up so early.  Since he's only 1, however, I'm pretty sure that the idea of presents isn't one that he can grasp yet.  So, I wonder what woke him this morning.  Possibly a bad dream, a full diaper, a stomach ache, tooth pain.  Personally, I'd like to think that he just wanted to see me, and that he couldn't wait until his customary 6:30.

This past Saturday we celebrated Isaac's birthday with a party.  The guest list included lots of his friends.  We had a time for presents and a time for Isaac to take his first bite of cake.  He didn't dive into it, but I think he liked it.  He received lots of wonderful gifts.  Although we were fortunate to have his Oregon family and friends at the party, we sorely missed the Comptons and the Furmans.  It is my prayer that one day we can all celebrate birthdays together - Oregonians, Californians, and Pennsylvanians alike.

Dear Isaac,
Happy Birthday baby!  You are an absolute treasure to me, to your dad, and to the rest of your family.  You brighten up the room with your smile, and by extension, our hearts.  Thank you for your sweet disposition.  Thank you for the way you grab both sides of my face and try to bite me.  To others it might seem like abuse, but I know that's just your way of saying "I love you."  Our first year was a tough one, but we got through it.  It was worth it.  My prayer is that you will grow to be healthy and happy, but most of all that you will meet Jesus and begin a life long journey of knowing and loving Him more and more each day.  There will be hardships in your life; this world can be cold and sometimes downright miserable.  Through it all, I hope you discover that relying on God's love and strength will help you press on.  Don't forget that your dad and I will be here for you.  I'm excited to see you take your first real steps in this life.  I can't wait to be there waiting to help you take
more.  Thank you for letting me be your earthly mother.
Each day I lean on the strength of your Father in heaven to help me steer you in the right direction.
I will do my best to be worthy of the cause.

WOTW bomb!

The last couple days have been weird for me.  I felt really busy, and then I felt really sick.  I missed 3 days of walking!  Today is a new day and I'm feeling a little better, so I'm going to try to get a walk in.  I don't want to lose any more momentum, but I will give myself some grace :)

WOTW days 4 and 5 (updated!)

Today is a beautiful day in St. Helens Oregon!  I can't remember the last time it was this warm.  A year ago, I guess.  Our winter and spring have been terrible...so it's nice to see the sun and smell freshly cut grass. Not to mention that it's yard sale season (although people call them "garage sales" here - even if there is no garage in sight) and that makes me happy!  I've already found an umbrella stroller, toys, books, and my friend who was having a "garage" sale gave me a bench for free!  It needs a little TLC, but it was hand made and it has loads of character.

Yesterday was day 4 of WOTW!  Isaac and I walked down our big hill and back up again.  Normally I only walk halfway down, but yesterday we went the whole way.  I never knew there was a protected wetland right here in my neighborhood.  The sign is kind of washed out, but that's what it says!

Last night Isaac stayed up until 8 o'clock with us.  He was sitting on dad's lap, and then leaning on dad's arm. He kept rubbing his eyes and staring into space.  He posed for a few cute pictures.

Isaac is napping right now, but as soon as he gets up, we'll make some plans for walking.  Today I need to walk at least 20 minutes.  I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.

Update: I went to a park in Scappoose with my friend Cassie and Isaac's friends Nikko and Jason.  We walked around the baseball fields/park twice.  Here are some pictures of the friends playing!

WOTW day 3

So Thursday was supposed to be my "walk zero minutes" day, but I switched that for yesterday.  I had been up since 4 am, and by the time I got home, my body, mind, and spirit was completely exhausted.  The friend I was supposed to walk with understood (angel!), and I switched Thursday with yesterday.  That means no breaks till Sunday, but I can do it! Today I was supposed to walk for 10 minutes (remember, I'm being eased into this).  I'm on my lunch break and I just walked down and then back up my hill.  Walking fast down the hill was easy.  When I turned around to start walking back up I set a medium pace, thinking I could keep up with it.  By the time I reached my mailbox I was huffing and puffing!  I'm so out of shape!  I know though, that with a little hard work and determination, I can keep doing this, and get better.

I've been reading this website www.moneysavingmom.com and I can't get enough!  Check it out!

Free Coupon Class

My lovely sister sent me a link to this savvy shopper course: http://www.mycouponteacher.com/savvy-shopper-course/ and I'm going to do it!  I looked over it this morning at 4:30 am.  That's right.  I was awake.  Isaac woke up at 4 wanting to play, play, play!  He ended up drinking a bottle and then fussing until I put him back to sleep, but on the whole he was out of bed from 4:30-5:30.

The coupon class is stretched over 12 weeks.  It's an ongoing thing, so you can start it at anytime.  I'm excited.  The first thing to do is set a realistic budget for groceries, get a binder together....and start clipping! I already have a binder, I just need to get it organized.  I'm on the look out for great deals! I'll be sure to let you know how walking goes later!

Walk off the Weight

Day 1 - WOTW

We did it! (Isaac and I.)  Now, since I'm a beginner, I wanted to start somewhere flat.  We live on the top of a big hill.  So, as lame as it sounds, we drove somewhere so we could walk.  Unfortunately, we left our house right around the time that school ended for the day.  I don't think I've mentioned how irritating it is to follow a school bus these days.  When I was a kid, there was one bus stop for the whole neighborhood.  Now, the bus stops at every street along the way, and I'm not exaggerating!  Some of the bus stops can't be more than a few yards away from each other.  I guess it's for the child's safety, but I don't see how the child could be in any danger by walking 3 yards to the next bus stop.  It's infuriating.

Anyway, since it was the first day of the challenge, I was only supposed to walk for 10 minutes.  The idea is to create a habit of walking everyday.  I walked for 20 minutes today.  Tomorrow I'm going to walk with a friend, and one of these nights I'll walk with my husband and our dogs.  It'll be nice to mix things up.  I hope that I can stick to this!

Let's Start Over

I'm tired of hiding. I'm going to be myself no matter what.  And I want to blog!  So, here it goes.

Here are some new adventures that I will  be sharing with you on this new blog!
1) Coupons!  I'm not extreme in any sense of the word, but I am always on the lookout for great deals!  On my first grocery shopping trip with coupons I saved almost $20.  That felt amazing!  I hope that with the use of coupons, I can help my family chip away at our debt more quickly, and thus achieve my dream more quickly: becoming a full-time-stay-at-home-mom.  I will share any crazy deals that I find.  I'm an absolute beginner, so please feel free to leave comments with tips!

2) Being Debt Free!  For a few months, Andrew and I have been working on putting as much extra money as we can towards our debt.  There are a few reasons we have been doing this.  First and foremost, having a lot of debt is not pleasing to God.  He wants me to be good with what he gave me, and that includes money.  I have been living above my means for too long.  I want to live more frugally so that I can bless God with the money he gives me.  I will live below my means so that I can pay off this debt, and so that ultimately I can bless others by giving.  Another reason we want to be debt free has already been mentioned above.  What I want, more than anything, is to be able to stay home and raise my child (and maybe one day my childREN).  Yet another reason is the freedom that comes with being debt free and paying for things with cash.  Wouldn't it be wonderful to have this mind set: you see something you want.  you save for it for a couple months.  you buy it with cash.  no more strings attached!  It's actually YOURS instead of the credit card company's. Freeing.  Freedom to travel because you don't have to spend that money on past debts.  Freedom to give to your friends and family more extravagantly because you  don't have to spend that money on past debts!  Free. Dom.

3) Memories for Baby.  Now and then I'll be posting some fun things that Isaac has done, so we can look back on it and remember.

4) Weight Loss Journey.  There, if I put it out there, I'm accountable.  I'm going to start on a "walk off the weight" challenge that I found on www.familycircle.com .  I would like to lose about 20 pounds, and I'm going to start with this walking regiment.  We'll see how it goes!

Thanks for stopping by.  Come back every once in awhile to see if there have been updates!
